Biddy Mason Charitable Foundation President and CEO Jackie Broxton Named PBS SoCal Local Hero

The Biddy Mason Charitable Foundation (BMCF) is delighted to announce that its president and CEO, Jackie Broxton, has been selected as an honoree in the 2025 Local Heroes program by PBS SoCal for her outstanding leadership and commitment to improving the lives of foster youth in Los Angeles.

The PBS SoCal Local Heroes program recognizes the accomplishments of those who are dedicated to making a difference in the community. Broxton is among just two honorees whose work demonstrates the impact of local leadership, service and lasting community impact. All 2025 Local Heroes nominees will be celebrated at an annual private event at PBS SoCal’s Burbank Studios on December 4, 2025.

With Los Angeles County holding the largest number of foster youth in the nation, Broxton and fellow community members founded the Biddy Mason Charitable Foundation in 2013 to support this growing vulnerable population. The nonprofit’s work has exploded in the last decade, including the introduction of its flagship scholarship program.

Under Broxton’s leadership, BMCF has awarded over $700,000 in academic and career scholarships to current and former foster youth. The foundation also provides targeted support services including kinship-care support group, housing assistance, an annual Thanksgiving dinner for foster youth, and workshops for mothers who were once in foster care.

“I am deeply honored to receive this recognition from PBS SoCal,” says Broxton. “Biddy Mason, a Los Angeles icon and our organization’s namesake, built her life around lifting others, and that’s the inheritance we’re carrying forward. I’m thrilled that others are turning the spotlight on these incredible young people to give them the access, opportunity, and love that they deserve.”
