BMCF/Origin Stories Project

YOUR STORY DESERVES TO BE TOLD

The Biddy Mason Charitable Foundation is thrilled to partner with The Origin Stories Project to offer a unique art and storytelling workshop to current and former foster youth. Over three Sundays in November 2024, participants will gather at the BMCF house to discuss an identity-informing experience that’s happened in their lives. Storytellers will interpret their story by creating an original, multimedia work of art using a transparent box , voice recordings, and other materials.

Core questions we may explore include:

• What shaped your personal and cultural sense of identity? (I really like this one and think we should use it!)

• What is the story behind how you formed your strongest friendship?

• What wisdom do you carry from your life experiences thus far?

WHAT'S ORIGIN STORIES ALL ABOUT?

A multiethnic, multi-aged group of people who have received the Biddy Mason Charitable Foundation scholarship are assembled under a tree.

WHO IS THIS FOR?
This workshop is open to teens and adults who have a history with foster care. There is no age limit. Minors  will need a signed release from their legal guardian, attorney, or case worker.
No prior artistic experience is required—come as you are.

IS THERE A COST?
This experience is free and open on a first come, first serve basis.

WHY PARTICIPATE?
The BMCF/Origin Stories Project creates a safe space to build connection and drive healing with others who have been in foster care. Come reclaim YOUR narrative and give visual expression to your past, present, and future self.

HOW WILL THE ARTWORK BE USED?
Your box will be included in the permanent collection of Saffron Communities, the founder of Origin Stories Project, to be displayed in national art exhibitions and in an online gallery. The number of people your story may inspire is limitless!
