Panel discussion about the many contributions African-American residents, such as Biddy Mason,  have made to the history of Los Angeles. Sherwin “Keith” Rice, a historian and archivist at the Tom & Ethel Bradley Center located at CSUN, provides the historical context for the panel discussion, which is moderated by Tyree Boyd-Pates, curator at the California African American Museum.

The impetus for this program was Los Angeles Public Library’s recent digitization of The Liberator, L.A.’s first African-American newspaper, owned and edited by Jefferson Edmonds. His descendant, Arianne Edmonds, participated in the discussion, along with Tina Watkins-Quaye, whose grandfather Ted Watkins founded the Watts Labor Community Action Committee.
