Going the Distance to Make a Difference in Foster Youth

Our Mission

The Biddy Mason Charitable Foundation provides quality services and support to current and former foster youth through innovative programs and collaborative initiatives with community partners.

The Biddy Mason Charitable Foundation began as an outreach ministry of First African Methodist Episcopal (F.A.M.E.) Church of Los Angeles in 2013.  In 2016 the Foundation became an independent 501c3 non-profit organization that is dedicated to serving current and former foster youth in LA County.

How it started

The initiative began by creating and hosting events specifically for current and former foster youth. The Department of Children 7 Family Services followed by local community members and trade unions. The collaborations have expanded as our services to the current and former foster youth have increased

The BMCF first began its community outreach to foster youth in LA by hosting a Thanksgiving dinner. This holiday celebration is now one of our staple events
Became an independent 501c3
The BMCF established its scholarship program for foster youth and since then has awarded over $300,000 to current and former foster youth in LA County
We received the keys to our miracle home aka The Biddy Mason Center where we fully operate our mission and vision of serving foster youth

How It's going

In October 2020 The Biddy Mason Charitable Foundation was blessed with a 4,000 sq ft facility as the result of our partnership with the California Lutheran Homes Foundation. The facility is now being referred to as The Biddy Mason Center, located in the historic area of West Adams Los Angeles. The Biddy Mason Center is home to an exclusive wide assortment of African-American art and history. The Biddy Mason Center Is also home to college-aged females whose personal histories include foster care. As we continue to move upward through our mission statement we will need your continued support.

Your gifts will be used not only to continue to provide resources for current and former foster youth but will also be used for the Biddy Mason Center re-designed plan for the front porch, maintenance security to protect the young women living on the property, and upgrade to our garage which we plan to turn into a clothing boutique for foster youth.

It is our goal to create a warm and peaceful environment that is consistent with the beautiful tree-lined street we fortunately occupy.

We invite you to stop by for a tour and enjoy the magnificent Biddy Mason Center -our home. Tours are by appointment only, please register at [email protected]

Our main source of inspiration for the philanthropy work serving our current and former foster youth is owed to Bridget “Biddy” Mason- an African-American woman, midwife, entrepreneur, and philanthropist whose legacy we continue to educate our community through our mission.

WE are blessed
